Palakkad Fort, also known as Tipu's Fort, is a historic site located in the heart of Palakkad, Kerala. It was rebuilt by Hyder Ali in 1766 and later taken over by his son Tipu Sultan. The fort is praised for its architecture that showcases the workmanship of ancient Vishwakarmas and is one of the well-preserved forts in Kerala. It stands as a testament to the Mysore invasions and the colonial battles that southern India witnessed. The fort spreads over an expansive area and is surrounded by a broad open moat that served as a line of defense in the past. Within its walls, the fort houses a Hanuman temple, which is one of the oldest of its kind and a sub-jail that is still functional. The fort's grounds are used for various cultural and sports activities, making it an important leisure spot for locals. Its robust structure against the lush backdrop of Kerala’s landscape makes it a significant and attractive historical site.
