The market area, often referred to as Ramgarh Market, serves as a hub for tourists seeking to explore the tranquil town and its surroundings.

The Colonial Era

The history of tourism in Ramgarh can be traced back to the British colonial period. The British, drawn to the pleasant climate and picturesque landscape of the Kumaon hills, established Ramgarh as a cantonment town. Over the years, it became a favored summer retreat for British officials and their families, leading to the construction of various colonial bungalows and estates, some of which still stand today.

Post-Independence Growth

After India's independence in 1947, Ramgarh and the surrounding areas continued to grow as a tourist destination for Indian travelers. People came to appreciate the untouched natural beauty, the panoramic views of the Himalayas, and the opportunity to escape the bustling city life.

Development of Ramgarh Market

The Ramgarh Market itself has developed over the years to cater to the needs of tourists. Offering local produce, such as plum, peach, apple, and apricot from the orchards, the market gives visitors a taste of the region's agricultural richness. Small tea shops, cafes, and restaurants have also sprung up in the market, providing spots for travelers to relax and enjoy local cuisine.

Current Tourism Trends

In recent times, Ramgarh has seen a rise in eco-tourism and sustainable travel practices. Many tourists now seek accommodations in eco-friendly resorts and homestays that promote conservation and support local communities.

Adventure tourism has also gained popularity, with trekking, rock climbing, and mountain biking being some of the preferred activities for visitors seeking an adrenaline rush in the midst of nature.

Additionally, Ramgarh is gaining recognition as a wellness retreat destination. With the increasing stress of urban lifestyles, travelers are drawn to the town's peaceful environment, seeking rejuvenation through yoga, meditation, and spa treatments offered by various resorts.
