Rudrasagar Lake, also known as Rudijala, is a picturesque water body located about 55 km away from Agartala, the capital city of Tripura, India. Spanning over 5.3 square kilometers, it is an ecological haven and a Ramsar site that was designated in 2003 for its rich biodiversity. Surrounded by lush greenery and a tranquil ambience, Rudrasagar Lake encapsulates the essence of Northeast India's natural beauty. The lake is famous for the Neermahal Palace, which is situated at the center of the lake. Constructed by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarman in the 1930s as his summer residence, this palace is a unique blend of Hindu and Islamic architectural styles. Providing habitat to local and migratory birds, the lake is an ornithologist's paradise, especially during the winter months when birds from faraway lands visit. The lake also supports local livelihood through fishing and tourism. Community-based eco-tourism initiatives are active in the area, promoting sustainable travel practices. Besides its ecological and historical significance, the lake is a focus point for the annual boat races held during the Neermahal festival, which is a major tourist draw.
