Unakoti Hill, located in the northeastern state of Tripura, India, is an enigmatic historical site featuring colossal rock carvings, murals, and waterfalls. 'Unakoti' translates to 'one less than a crore' in Bengali, signifying the legend that says these are carvings of one less than 10 million gods and goddesses. An ancient pilgrimage site, it beautifully showcases the blend of natural and manmade artistry, with sculptures predominantly dedicated to Lord Shiva. The central Shiva head, known as 'Unakotiswara Kal Bhairava', measuring about 30 feet high, including an embroidered headdress, is the most astonishing aspect of these carvings. Surrounding this are figures carved into the hillside and rock faces, including images of Ganesha, Nandi, and other Hindu deities. Archaeologists agree that the carvings date back to somewhere between the 7th and 9th centuries though the precise origins remain a mystery, thus adding to the charm and intrigue of Unakoti Hill.

Surprised Experience
