Shakthan Thampuran Palace, also known as Vadakkekara Palace, is situated in Thrissur, Kerala, India. Built by the erstwhile ruler of Cochin, Rama Varma Shakthan Thampuran, also known as the 'Rajarshi,' the palace showcases the brilliance of Kerala-Dutch architecture. It dates back to the late 18th century and functions as a museum today, offering a glimpse into the history of the ruling dynasties of Kerala. The palace is renowned for its unique structure and has been preserved with great care, maintaining its originality. The museum inside the palace displays artifacts from different eras, including the Bronze Gallery, Sculpture Gallery, Numismatics Gallery, and the History Gallery which portray ancient coins, sculptures, oil paintings, and murals from the region. The surrounding garden known as Shakthan Thampuran is famous for its indigenous plant species and tranquil environment. The compound also houses the very ancient Serpent Grove (Sarpakaavu) which is a traditional natural sacred space that pays homage to the serpent gods.
