Shree Bindhyabasini Temple is a revered Hindu temple situated in Pokhara, Nepal, perched on a small hill within the bustling city. It is dedicated to the goddess Bhagawati, an incarnation of Parvati, the consort of Shiva. The temple manifests a strong sense of divinity and offers panoramic views of the Pokhara valley and the majestic Machhapuchhre mountain. Legend has it that the temple enshrines a goddess who was brought here from Bindhyachal mountain, India, after a holy sage named Bindhyabasini chose the valley for the temple's location. This revered shrine showcases traditional Nepalese architecture with a pagoda-style design consisting of multi-tiered roofs and richly decorated woodwork. The compound is filled with smaller shrines and bells, and the atmosphere is often vibrant with religious hymns and devotional activities. Fairs and festivals are regularly held here, especially during Dashain and Navaratri when the temple draws large numbers of pilgrims. The serene environment and spiritual ambiance make it a sanctuary for both worshippers and visitors seeking tranquility.
Perhaps this is the only temple in Nepal where the management has made provisions for a lift/elevator for the convenience of infirm pilgrims.
