Best Time to Visit Sonmarg, Kashmir, India

Sonmarg, also known as the "Meadow of Gold," is a picturesque destination in Kashmir, India, that beckons travelers with its enchanting natural beauty. The ideal time to visit Sonmarg is during the summer months from May to October. During this period, the weather is pleasantly cool, typically ranging from 15°C to 30°C, providing a perfect escape from the scorching heat of the plains. Summer brings out the vibrant colors of the valley, with flowers in full bloom and lush greenery all around. This is also the perfect time for trekking activities and to embark on the famous Amarnath Yatra, which usually starts in late June or early July.

However, for those who are mesmerized by snow, visiting Sonmarg in the winter months could be a spectacular experience. From November to April, the region is blanketed in snow, offering a different kind of serene beauty altogether. Winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy activities like skiing and snowboarding. Nevertheless, it is crucial to note that winters in Sonmarg are harsh, with temperatures often plummeting below freezing point, and the area remains largely inaccessible due to heavy snowfall, especially from January to March, when the Srinagar-Leh highway is closed. Therefore, tourists planning a winter trip should be prepared for the cold and check accessibility before travelling.
