Swaraj Bhavan, originally known as Anand Bhavan, is a historical site located in the Indian city of Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh. It is famously recognized as the ancestral home of the Nehru Family — one of the most prominent families in Indian politics with connections to numerous freedom fighters and past prime ministers of India. The house has been a silent witness to many pivotal discussions and events that shaped the Indian independence movement. It was donated to the Indian National Congress in 1930 by Motilal Nehru to be used as a headquarters for the freedom fighters. In 1970, Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India and granddaughter of Motilal Nehru, turned it into a museum that showcases the history and heritage of the Nehru-Gandhi family. Enriched with personal memorabilia of the Nehru family, the place now offers a glimpse into their lives and their role in the independence struggle. It also highlights the transformation of India from a colony to a republic.
