The Best Time to Visit Varkala Lighthouse, Kerala

The ideal time to visit Varkala Lighthouse in Varkala, Kerala is during the winter months, which span from November to February. During this period, the weather in Kerala is exceptionally pleasant, with temperatures ranging from around 17°C to 33°C. This mild climate offers a comfortable environment for visitors to climb the lighthouse and enjoy the panoramic views without the discomfort of the scorching summer heat or the torrential rains of the monsoon. The skies are usually clear, ensuring you get an uninterrupted vista of Varkala's breathtaking coastline. Additionally, the winter season coincides with a number of cultural festivals in Kerala, providing an excellent opportunity to immerse oneself in local traditions and festivities.

However, if you prefer a quieter experience with fewer tourists, the shoulder seasons of early November or late February to March can also be a good choice. These months offer a balance with moderately warm temperatures and relatively lower footfall. Although the summer months from March to May provide longer daylight hours which are beneficial for outdoor activities, they are typically hot and humid with temperatures soaring to 37°C. This might not be comfortable for all tourists, especially when climbing to the top of the lighthouse. The monsoon season, lasting from June to September, is least advisable due to heavy rains that may disrupt your travel plans, and the risk of high tides and strong winds make the climb potentially unsafe. Therefore, plan your visit to Varkala Lighthouse accordingly to make the most of your trip to this scenic coastal landmark in Kerala.
