Ajatshatru Fort, located in the quaint town of Rajgir in Bihar, India, is a historical fortification that dates back to around 2500 years. It is believed to have been built by Ajatshatru, a king of the Haryanka dynasty, during the 6th century BC, making it contemporaneous with Gautama Buddha's time. The fort stands as a testimony to ancient Indian military architecture and the historical confluence of various religions and cultures. Constructed mainly with bricks, this fort showcases the ingenuity of ancient engineering techniques. It stands amidst low hills and greenery that characterize the Rajgir landscape. Excavations have revealed interesting structures like a stupa, monastery, and votive stupas suggesting Buddhist influences. Ajatshatru Fort is part of the larger Rajgir heritage zone, which includes many other historical and natural sites. A trip to the fort is often accompanied by visits to the Rajgir's ancient cyclopean walls, hot springs, and the Vishwa Shanti Stupa.

No maintenance by government
The ruins of fort, pillars, etc could have been properly turned into major touristic area which is there since 3000 years ago. Lack of government upkeep is the main issue.

Most Ancient Fort
I went to Ajatshatru Fort. The fort is popularly known today having its existence in ruins and hardly seems to be a fort in first glance. Ajatshatru is considered to be the most ancient forts in India..

Ajatshatru Fort
Not much has remained of this fort built in 6th century. State government could have done better work on maintenance. Only boulders can be seen of this great ancient structure.
