Alikatta is the central point of Pench National Park, situated in the Seoni and Chhindwara districts of Madhya Pradesh, India. It serves as the main hub for wildlife sighting and is often referred to as the 'Heart of Pench'. The national park is named after the Pench River, which meanders through it, dividing the park into nearly equal eastern and western halves. Alikatta's grasslands offer visitors an open view of the area, facilitating sightings of various animals such as spotted deer, sambar, and wild boars. Alikatta is also the stage for the park’s famous 'Pench Tiger,' thanks to the park's high density of Bengal tigers. Besides tigers, the park is home to leopards, sloth bears, gaur, and many other species, making it a favorite for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. Pench National Park incorporates a mixed vegetation ranging from moist, dry, deciduous forests to sheltered valleys and open grassy meadows providing a diverse habitat for wildlife. It gained international fame as the setting for Rudyard Kipling's classic 'The Jungle Book'.
