The Cankamana in Bodh Gaya is a sacred place for Buddhists, located in the Mahabodhi Temple complex in Bihar, India. This holy site marks the path that the Lord Buddha is said to have walked on as he meditated during the third week after attaining enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree. The pathway is elevated and adorned with beautifully carved lotus flowers that represent the holy footsteps of Buddha. Pilgrims often walk along the Cankamana in meditation, following in the steps of the enlightened one. The platform is lined with eighteen granite slabs, which are believed to bear the imprints of Buddha's feet. The calm and serene atmosphere at the Cankamana is highly conducive to meditation and reflection. As part of the Mahabodhi Temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Cankamana shares the rich heritage of this area which is considered the nerve center of Buddhism. This site has been a destination for thousands of pilgrims who come from all around the world to pay homage and gain merit in their spiritual journey.
