Badrinath is a town and a holy pilgrimage site in Chamoli district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. Located at an elevation of 3,300 meters, it is one of the four sites in India's Char Dham pilgrimage. Badrinath is situated between Nar and Narayana mountain ranges and in the shadow of Nilkantha peak. The town is named after the Badrinath Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, which is also the main attraction in the area. According to legend, the temple dates back to Vedic times, and Adi Shankaracharya, the great 8th-century reformer and philosopher, re-established the practice of pilgrimage to this sacred site. The temple's architecture is typical of a Buddhist vihara, with the brightly painted facade being a recent addition. The area around Badrinath is also rich in flora and fauna, offering stunning views of the Himalayan mountain range and providing opportunities for trekking and other outdoor activities.
