Kedarnath is one of the most revered holy towns nestled in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, India. It is situated at an altitude of 3,583 meters (11,755 feet) above sea level, near the head of the Mandakini River and is flanked by breathtaking snow-clad peaks. Kedarnath hosts one of the holiest Hindu temples, the Kedarnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, which forms part of the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit, along with Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. The town is accessible only by foot from Gaurikund or by helicopter services that operate from various locations during pilgrimage season. Kedarnath was tragically affected by flash floods in 2013, but has since seen extensive reconstruction and restoration work. The region surrounding Kedarnath is marked by dramatic landscapes, with lush green valleys in summer and serene, snow-covered vistas in winter. It's a place that offers solace and spiritual enrichment to pilgrims and adventure to trekkers and nature lovers.
