Jamia Masjid is a resplendent mosque situated at Nowhatta in the middle of the Old City in Srinagar, Kashmir, India. With the majestic Himalayas as its backdrop, this mosque is an epitome of serenity and a splendid example of Kashmiri wooden architecture intermingled with Mughal influences. It was built by Sultan Sikandar in 1400 CE, and further extended by his son, Zain-ul-Abidin. The courtyard is a tranquil space surrounded by 378 wooden deodar pillars, supporting the mosque's ceiling. Jamia Masjid is an important religious and cultural landmark in Srinagar, with a capacity to hold thousands of worshippers, especially during the Friday congregational prayers. The mosque has seen its fair share of history, having been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times due to fires and earthquakes. Despite the turbulent past, its grandeur remains undiminished, attracting not only the faithful but also travelers drawn to its architecture and historical significance.
