Pari Mahal, meaning 'Palace of Fairies', is a historic garden located above the Chashme Shahi Gardens near Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, India. Positioned upon the Zabarwan mountain range, it offers panoramic views of Dal Lake and the city of Srinagar. This terraced garden was established in the mid-17th century under the patronage of Mughal Prince Dara Shikoh, who was deeply interested in Sufism and the study of astrology and dedicated it to his tutor Mullah Shah Badakhshi. The structure showcases Islamic architecture with a blend of Persian elements. The garden was once a Buddhist monastery, later converted into a school of astrology. It is a seven terraced garden with beautiful flowering plants and avenues of trees and is illuminated at night. Pari Mahal is maintained by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir and serves not only as a tourist attraction but also as a cultural symbol from the Mughal era, offering insights into the historical and architectural heritage of the region.
