Shankaracharya Temple, also known as Jyeshteshwara Temple, is perched atop the Shankaracharya Hill, also known as Takht-e-Suleiman, in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the oldest shrines in the Kashmir valley. The temple dates back to 200 BC, although the present structure is believed to have been built by Raja Gopadatya in the 9th century AD and later renovated by the great philosopher Shankaracharya. This sacred site offers a panoramic view of the valley and is an important symbol of the historical and religious mosaic of Srinagar. It stands at a height of about 1,000 feet above the plain and is accessed by a flight of steps. The temple is a revered Hindu pilgrimage spot and has great spiritual significance. The architecture reflects ancient Persian influences and features a circular chamber, housing a Shiva lingam. It is also an excellent vantage point to take in the serene beauty of Srinagar and the surrounding snow-capped mountains.
