Joysagar Tank and Temples Tourism

Joysagar Tank and Temples is a historical site located in the town of Sivasagar, Assam. It was built in 1697 by Ahom king Swargadeo Rudra Singha in memory of his mother, Joymoti. The tank is one of the largest man-made lakes in India, covering about 318 acres. Adjacent to the tank are the three temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu, known as Joy Dol, Shiv Dol, and Devi Dol. These temples exhibit the architectural brilliance of the medieval period and are considered to be fine examples of Ahom architecture, which is a blend of local techniques and Mughal influences. The impressive engineering of the tank and the sacred aura of the temples draw history buffs, pilgrims, and tourists alike, making it a significant heritage site in Assam. Various festivals are celebrated here, especially during Shivratri, when the temple precincts come alive with festivities.
