Talatal Ghar Tourism

Talatal Ghar, located in Sivasagar, Assam, India, is a historical monument of great significance. Constructed in the 17th century by the Ahom kingdom’s greatest king, Swargadeo Rudra Singha, it originally functioned as an army base. The architectural mastery of Talatal Ghar lies in its underground structure; the two secret tunnels and three floors below ground used as escape routes during wartime symbolize the strategic brilliance of the Ahom rulers. Above ground, there are three floors, which were used as living quarters and for royal administration. Over the years, parts of this imposing structure have been damaged and lost, but the remnants continue to stand tall as historical testimony. The ornate carvings on its walls and the grandeur of its design transport visitors back to the days of Ahom rule, making it an essential site for understanding the cultural and historical heritage of Assam.
