Kareng Ghar Tourism

Kareng Ghar, located in Sivasagar, Assam, is a historical palace that was the royal seat of the Ahom kings, who ruled Assam for six centuries. The palace, also known as The Garhgaon Palace, exhibits the architectural prowess of the Ahom dynasty. Built-in 1752 by Rajeswar Singha, it is a seven-storied structure made predominantly of wood and stone. The architectural style is unique, reflecting the Tai Ahom craft, with intricate carvings and beautiful design elements. The palace complex is surrounded by fortifications and has three main chambers: the eastern chamber served as the royal apartments, the central as the darbar hall (throne room), and the western chamber as the place for storing arms and ammunition. Over time, Kareng Ghar has seen many restorations to maintain its grandeur and historical significance. Its rich past and well-preserved state make it an important cultural heritage site for Assam and India.
