Kareri Lake, also known as Kumarwah Lake, is a high-altitude, shallow, freshwater lake located in the Dhauladhar range approximately 9 km northwest of Dharamshala in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, India. This serene and beautiful lake is situated at an altitude of about 2,934 meters (9,626 feet) above sea level and is a popular trekking destination. The lake is fed by the melting snow of the Dhauladhar mountains, which causes the lake's water to be crystal clear. An interesting aspect of Kareri Lake is that it remains frozen from December to March-April. Adjacent to the lake is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Shakti, which holds religious significance for the local communities. Trekking to Kareri Lake provides an enchanting experience through dense forests, scenic meadows, and rustic villages. The trail is often marked by colorful flags and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
