Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary in Namchi, Sikkim is situated at an altitude that ranges from 2,000 meters to 3,261 meters above sea level, boasting a rich variety of flora and fauna. The optimal time to visit the sanctuary is between the months of March to late May and from October to mid-December. During the spring months, visitors are treated to a spectacular display of blooming rhododendrons and orchids. The weather is pleasantly warm, and the skies are generally clear, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks, including the majestic Mount Kanchenjunga. Additionally, the spring season is ideal for bird watching as migratory birds visit the sanctuary.
Conversely, the autumn months provide a different kind of beauty when the trees adopt stunning hues of gold and russet, and the clear skies offer unobstructed views of the mountains. The temperature during this period is cool and comfortable, making it perfect for trekking and wildlife observation. It's advisable to avoid the monsoon season from June to September, as the sanctuary experiences heavy rainfall, which can lead to landslides, making the steep trails risky to traverse. Winters from December to February are quite cold, with snow blanketing the higher regions of the sanctuary, potentially making access difficult and limiting wildlife spotting opportunities.
