Mahanandi is a serene pilgrimage village located in Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is known for the much revered Mahanandiswara Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the Nava Nandis, the nine shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple showcases the brilliance of 7th-century architecture and is an epitome of natural and spiritual splendour. The shrine is situated amid lush forests and is bordered by a perennial water source that comes from five springs called 'Pancha Nandi Theertham'. What makes Mahanandi remarkable is its unique freshwater pools, which are believed to have healing properties due to the high mineral content. The location is enveloped by verdurous Nallamala hills and provides a peaceful retreat for pilgrims and nature lovers alike. Besides the spiritual aspect, Mahanandi is acclaimed for its agricultural practices, with fertile lands yielding a variety of crops. The Mahanandi Temple features a crystal-clear water tank which is incredibly square-shaped, and whose water remains at a constant 3 feet depth, a fact which intrigues visitors and devotees.
