Adoni Fort Tourism
Type of destination: Historical Landmark
Ideal visit duration: 2-3 hours
Adoni Fort, situated in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, India, is a historical fortification with a rich heritage. Perched atop a hill, Adoni Fort offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. It was an important military base and the stronghold of the Vijayanagara Empire during the 15th century. Later, it came under the control of various rulers including the Mughal governors, the Nawabs of Savanur, and the rulers of the Hyderabad State. The fort complex is sprawling, encompassing multiple granaries, warehouses, the palace ruins, and an impressive gateway. It has 12 sub-forts making up a large fortification system. The remnants of its historical grandeur can be observed in the form of intricate carvings on the fort walls and the architecture of the gateways. The fort is also a symbol of the rich cultural and architectural legacy of the previous dynasties who ruled this region. Despite its ruins, Adoni Fort still stands as a reminder of the town's strategic importance in South India's history.
