Best Time to Visit Meghalaya, India

The best time to visit Meghalaya, renowned for its lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage, is during the months of October to April. This period bypasses the heavy monsoon season and allows visitors to explore the state's natural beauty under clear skies. The weather during these months is pleasantly cool and is considered ideal for sightseeing, trekking, and participating in outdoor activities. October and November witness the post-monsoon greenery, making the scenery exceptionally vibrant, whereas December to February is cooler with some areas experiencing chilly winds and temperatures that can drop to around 4°C.

Spring in Meghalaya, which falls in March and April, is another excellent time to visit. The state blooms with fresh flowers and the climate remains comfortable, with average temperatures ranging between 16°C and 25°C. This period is perfect for those interested in botanical tours, wildlife expeditions, and cultural festivals. It's important to note that while Shillong and the Khasi Hills might be more crowded during these months, the beauty and tranquility of the region's less-visited areas like Garo and Jaintia hills remain relatively undisturbed. For visitors keen on exploring the living root bridges or diving into the region's intriguing matriarchal societies, this is an ideal time to immerse oneself in the local ethos.
