Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church is an iconic historical landmark situated in the heart of Panaji, the capital city of Goa, India. Known for its distinct Portuguese Baroque architecture, the church stands out with its pristine white facade and zigzagging staircases leading up to the entrance. It was first built as a chapel in 1541 and was later replaced by a larger church in the 1600s as a place of worship for Portuguese sailors arriving from Lisbon. The church interior is relatively simple but is enhanced by the elaborately gilded altars, especially the main altar dedicated to Mary Immaculate. The church also houses a striking ancient bell that was removed from the Augustinian ruins of the Church of Our Lady of Grace. The bell is now considered the second largest of its kind in Goa. As a major tourist attraction, this religious site not only draws Catholic devotees but also travelers interested in history, architecture, and culture.
