The Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is an estuarine mangrove habitat situated on the western tip of the Island of Chorao along the Mandovi River, Goa, in India. Named after the eminent Indian ornithologist, Dr. Salim Ali, the sanctuary is one of the best-known bird sanctuaries in India. Visitors can find a variety of local and migratory birds, making it a paradise for bird watchers. A network of water channels runs through the sanctuary allowing for boat tours which provide an excellent means of viewing birds and the mangrove habitat. The sanctuary covers an area of 1.8 sq km and is known for its unique mangrove ecosystem. This tranquil sanctuary is crisscrossed with a network of walkways and viewing towers, offering visitors the chance to see the diverse range of birdlife, including kingfishers, pintails, and black drongos. The juxtaposition of dense mangrove forests and numerous water birds adds to the beauty and serenity of this place, making it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts and photographers.
