Patal Bhuvaneshwar is a limestone cave temple complex located in the village of Bhubneshwar, near the town of Berinag in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India. This ancient natural cave system, with its series of caves within caves, is believed to be as old as the earth itself according to Hindu mythology. Considered the abode of thirty-three crore gods, the cave is enshrined with countless stalactite and stalagmite figures, which the faithful believe resemble various gods and goddesses from Hindu mythology. The main cave is 160 meters in length and 90 feet in depth from the point of entrance. Limestone rock formations have created various spectacular stalactite and stalagmite figures. This cave system has a narrow tunnel-like entrance which leads to several small and large chambers that hold deep religious significance. The journey inside the caves is often considered as a pathway to the spiritual world.
