With its scenic beauty and tranquil surroundings, the dam is an ideal spot for picnics, bird watching, and boat rides. Visitors can enjoy a serene boat journey through the reservoir's backwaters and explore the uninhabited islands within the reservoir, such as the 'Smaraka Thottam,' a living memorial honoring the region's freedom fighters. The region around the dam is nurtured by the waters and has become a fertile site for various spice gardens and plantations.
