Royal Cenotaphs Tourism
Type of destination: Historical Landmark
Ideal visit duration: 1-2 hours
The Royal Cenotaphs, also known as Devi Kund Sagar, are situated around 8 km away from the city of Bikaner, in the Rajasthan state of India. This historical site is where the royal family of Bikaner have built their elaborate cenotaphs, also known as 'chhatris'. Made chiefly of white marble and red sandstone, these cenotaphs serve as memorials to the deceased members of the ruling family, showcasing Rajputana architectural excellence. Each cenotaph is designed uniquely, adorned with intricate carvings, and bears inscriptions with the deceased's name and date of birth and death. The oldest among them dates back to the 16th century, dedicated to Rao Kalyan Mal, the second ruler of Bikaner. The place exudes a serene ambiance and provides insights into the history and royal heritage of Bikaner, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts and those interested in architectural charm. Notably, the site is reflective of the Rajasthani culture, traditions, and the royal past.
