Rudranath Temple, a revered shrine in the Garhwal Himalayan region, forms part of the 'Panch Kedar' pilgrimage circuit, comprising five Shiva temples in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Nestled in the Chamoli district, it is situated at an elevation of over 3,600 meters above sea level, surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Himalayas and dense alpine forests. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, where the deity is worshiped in the form of a 'mukh' or face. Unlike conventional temples, the iconography here is particularly unique as it features a rock face depicting the face of Shiva. This ancient temple is believed to have been built by the Pandavas, the heroes of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. The route to Rudranath Temple is a challenging trek that starts from Sagar village, showcasing the raw beauty of the Himalayan wilderness and the rich biodiversity of the region, including lush meadows known as 'Bugyals' and pristine water streams. The journey to Rudranath is as spiritually rewarding as it is physically challenging, drawing pilgrims and trekkers from across the world.
