History of Saputara Tribal Museum

The history of tourism around Saputara and its Tribal Museum is relatively nascent compared to other historical sites in India. Saputara has been developed as a planned hill resort with the initiative of the Gujarat government. The establishment of the Saputara Tribal Museum is a part of that development, intended to showcase the local culture and attract tourists with an interest in anthropology and ethnic heritage.

The museum is a significant cultural hub that has been meticulously preserving and promoting the tribal way of life since it opened to the public. The objective was not only to provide a tourist attraction but also to foster a sense of pride amongst the local communities about their unique heritage.

Exhibits and Attractions

As you step inside the museum, you will find a plethora of exhibits that include musical instruments, traditional jewelry, household articles, agricultural implements, and ceremonial objects, each narrating a story of the past. Life-size exhibits provide an immersive experience, depicting scenes of tribal weddings, festivals, and rituals that continue to be an integral part of the community's social fabric.

One of the signature displays includes a detailed reconstruction of a tribal home, giving visitors an intimate view of the living conditions and domestic architecture prevalent among the tribal people.
