The Sarhi Gate in Kanha National Park, situated in the heart of India in Madhya Pradesh, is the northernmost entrance of the park and is known for its lush sal and bamboo forests, meadows, and a wide array of wildlife. The best time to visit Sarhi Gate is from October to March when the weather is most favorable. During this period, the monsoon rains have subsided leaving behind a rejuvenated forest teeming with wildlife. Visitors can enjoy pleasant temperatures, which range from 10°C to 30°C, making wildlife spotting expeditions considerably comfortable. The cool weather not only makes the experience more enjoyable but also increases the probability of encountering fauna such as tigers, leopards, wild dogs, and barasingha as they are more active in cooler conditions.
The winter months of December and January are particularly magical. Mornings can be misty with dew decorating the flora, creating an enchanting atmosphere ideal for photography enthusiasts. By February, the climate starts warming up and the wildlife is routinely sighted around waterholes, which are ideal spots for visitors interested in animal behavior and photography. However, summer months from April to June, while hot, offer their own advantages. This is the time when chances of spotting tigers improve as they frequent waterholes more often to cool off. Nonetheless, with temperatures soaring up to 40°C, these months can be quite challenging for visitors not accustomed to the intense heat of central India.
