Sukhna Lake Tourism

Sukhna Lake is a serene reservoir located at the foothills of the Shivalik Hills in Chandigarh, Punjab, India. This 3 km² rain-fed lake was created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe stream flowing from the Shivalik Hills. Conceived by the Swiss-French architect, Le Corbusier, and the Chief Engineer P L Verma, Sukhna Lake forms an integral part of the city's urban design and is a protected national wetland. The promenade along the lake is a popular spot for morning walks, jogging, and leisurely strolls. The tranquility of the lake is complemented by the lush greenery that surrounds it, making it a photographer's delight. Visitors can enjoy activities such as rowing, boating, and yachting. The lakefront garden is frequently visited by locals and tourists alike for picnics and relaxation. Owing to its picturesque setting and the rich biodiversity that includes a variety of birds, Sukhna Lake is a spectacular destination for nature lovers and bird watchers. The lake also hosts the Asian Rowing Championships, and the clubhouse along its bank provides proper training for rowing and yachting.
