Type of destination: Natural Attraction
Ideal visit duration: 2-3 hours
Closed in: May to September (May close if the lake is dry)
Surwal Lake is situated near Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, which is renowned for the Ranthambore National Park. This picturesque lake is a seasonal attraction, primarily lush and full during the monsoon, but it may nearly dry up during the summer months. Surwal Lake is a haven for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts. During the winter season, especially dawn and dusk are magical times for visitors to witness a variety of migratory birds that flock to the lake, including flamingos, pelicans, and different types of ducks and waders. The lake is surrounded by gentle hills and agricultural lands, creating a peaceful environment. It provides a serene landscape that is ideal for photography as well. Beyond its avian diversity, the lake supports the nearby villagers with fish and acts as an important water resource in the area. While Sawai Madhopur is primarily visited for the tigers in Ranthambore, many find Surwal Lake to be a quiet escape from the thrill of the tiger safari, offering a tranquil experience with nature.
