Swayambhunath, also known as the "Monkey Temple", is an ancient religious complex atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley. It is one of the most sacred sites in Nepalese Buddhism.
If you are arriving by air, you will land at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, which is the only international airport in Nepal. From the airport, Swayambhunath is approximately 6.5 kilometers west of the city center.
Kathmandu is well-connected by road. If you're already in the city or in another part of Nepal:
For those who prefer walking, Swayambhunath is accessible by foot from Thamel, the tourist hub of Kathmandu. It's a nice walk through the residential areas and takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Remember the trek up to the temple involves climbing 365 steps, which is considered a pilgrimage in itself.
Enjoy your visit to this magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site and the panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley from the hilltop!
