The Tomb of Aurangzeb is located in the town of Khuldabad, near Aurangabad in the state of Maharashtra, India. Aurangzeb, the last of the strong Mughal Emperors, himself chose this modest resting place prior to his death in 1707. Unlike the grandiose mausoleums of his predecessors, Aurangzeb's tomb is a simple, open-air grave reflecting his austere lifestyle and belief. The tomb complex is within the compound of the dargah of Sheikh Zainuddin, a sufi saint. The entrance to the tomb complex features an elevated arched porch. The grounds also contain the graves of Aurangzeb's son Azam Shah and his wife. This place not only offers historical insights but also gives a glimpse into Mughal attitudes towards life and death. The tomb is a testament to Aurangzeb's piety and his wish for a posthumous life devoid of luxury.
