Tsomgo Lake, also known as Changu Lake, is a glacial lake located in the northeastern state of Sikkim, India, approximately 40 kilometers from the capital city, Gangtok. At an altitude of 3,753 meters (12,313 feet), it is one of the highest lakes in India. Surrounded by steep mountains, this tranquil lake mirrors the changing colors of the surrounding landscape. The lake is considered sacred by the local Sikkimese people and holds both cultural and religious significance. In the local Bhutia language, 'Tsomgo' means 'source of water'. It's a habitat for various species of birds and is known for the primulas and other flowers that bloom in the surrounding area. During winter, the lake freezes over, while in spring, it is surrounded by a burst of colorful flora. The journey to the lake itself is scenic, with the possibility of spotting rare Himalayan wildlife. Due to its proximity to the border with China, visitors to Tsomgo Lake require a permit, which can be arranged through registered travel agencies in Sikkim.

Must visit when in Sikkim
One of the most scenic places to see in Sikkim. The lake is beautifully located between the mountains and looks more beautiful with snow covered peaks. Must visit when in Sikkim

Breath taking Tsomgo Lake
Breathtaking view of lake and snow covered (sleet) mountains. A pity that the cable car was closed on the day. Really worth walking around the lake and taking it all in.
