Alipore Zoological Gardens Tourism

Alipore Zoological Gardens, popularly known as Alipore Zoo, is located in the city of Kolkata, in West Bengal, India. Spread over an area of about 46.5 acres, it is the oldest formally stated zoological park in India, having been officially opened in 1876. The zoo is a bustling attraction, famous for its large collection of wild animals, including several endangered species. Over the years, it has become a significant center for animal conservation, breeding, and research. Notable residents have included the now-extinct Aldabra giant tortoise Adwaita, estimated to have lived for over 250 years, and visitors can now marvel at a range of species, from regal Bengal tigers to playful chimpanzees and fearsome crocodiles.
