Howrah Bridge, officially known as Rabindra Setu, is an iconic landmark situated over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. Completed in 1943, the bridge connects the city of Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) with Howrah. This cantilever bridge is one of the world's busiest, bearing the daily flow of thousands of vehicles and pedestrians. It replaced a pontoon bridge and was the third-longest cantilever bridge at the time of its inauguration. The Howrah Bridge has also been featured in many Bollywood films, becoming a symbol of Kolkata itself. Its unique engineering does not have any nuts and bolts but was formed by riveting the whole structure. It stands on two 270 feet high pillars and the main span is almost 1500 feet long. The bridge is also unique because it's one of the few bridges in the world to be built without a single pylon in the river itself, thus not obstructing the flow of the river traffic.
