Marble Palace is a palatial nineteenth-century mansion in North Kolkata, India, famous for its marble walls and floors, from which it derives its name. Built in 1835 by Raja Rajendra Mullick, a wealthy Bengali merchant and art connoisseur, it is a splendid example of neoclassical architecture, with a touch of traditional Bengali style. Adorned with Victorian furniture, sculptures, and paintings by European and Indian artists, the mansion is also a museum that houses collections of antiques and artworks. Its lush gardens, dotted with statues and a variety of birds, add to the palace's charm. Despite being a private residence, it is open to the public, maintaining its regal ambiance that transports visitors back to the era of its creation.
