Baralacha La Tourism
Type of destination: High mountain pass
Ideal visit duration: 1 to 2 hours
Closed in: Late October to May due to snowfall
Baralacha La is a high mountain pass in the Zanskar range, connecting the Lahaul district in Himachal Pradesh to Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, situated at an elevation of 4,890 meters. The pass serves as a natural divide between the Bhaga and Yunam rivers. Known for its scenic vistas of barren mountains and winding roads, the region is a favorite among adventurers and bikers. Baralacha La is not just a pass but also a point of convergence for trekking trails from Chandra Tal and Suraj Tal lakes, making it a hub for trekkers. Commonly part of the Manali-Leh highway, Baralacha La's snow-covered landscapes draw visitors seeking the thrill of high-altitude travel. Due to heavy snowfall, the pass remains closed for several months annually, affecting its accessibility. The beautiful but treacherous route is dotted with prayer flags fluttering in the wind, offering travelers a spiritual and cultural insight into the region. A journey over Baralacha La is more than a passage through the mountains; it's a journey into some of the most awe-inspiring terrains the Himalayas have to offer.

Best place on Earth
Best place on Earth. Intermingled with snow clad mountains and patches of stones. Snow is clear white unlike the dirty snows of other hills.

You can have a lunch break at Lhasa dhaba Darcha if you are driving from Keylong to Barakacha.
Heavenly! The drive is beautiful. Just remember to stick to your lane while driving as it gets very narrow at certain points. Keep water & some snacks handy. Carry light woollens.

Breath taking sceneries
We drove from Keylong to Baralacha La and back. The sceneries are breath taking and unmatched. The road is very good, not to forget that there are bad patches ( due to flowing water, construction etc)..

Not too much snow
This place has very few snow. My talks with locals told me that it used to be more snow here all year round. It made me sad, the state of snow in here.
