Tayul Monastery is a picturesque Buddhist monastery nestled in the serene Lahaul Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. Situated at an elevation of approximately 3,900 meters above sea level, it lies in the rugged terrain of the Himalayas. Founded in the 17th century, Tayul Monastery is one of the oldest and most significant monasteries in the region. The word 'Tayul' means 'chosen place' in Tibetan, and indeed, the setting of the monastery amidst the breathtaking landscapes makes it an exceptionally chosen spot. The monastery is home to the Drukpa Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism and houses a giant statue of Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) that spans two floors. The walls are adorned with beautiful murals and thangkas that depict various aspects of Tibetan Buddhist lore.
