How To Reach Bhaktapur

Traveling to Bhaktapur, Nepal

Bhaktapur is an ancient city in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal, renowned for its rich culture, temples, and wood, metal, and stone artworks. Getting there can be done in various ways:

By Air

If you are traveling internationally, the first step is to fly into Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, the only international airport in Nepal. From there, Bhaktapur is approximately 13 kilometers east of Kathmandu city. Taxis and pre-booked private cars can easily be taken from the airport to Bhaktapur.

By Road

Bhaktapur is well-connected by road with other cities in Nepal. Travelers can choose between various forms of road transport:

  • Tourist Bus: This is a comfortable option with fixed departure times from major hotels or tourist bus parks in Kathmandu.
  • Local Bus: Cheaper than tourist buses but are more crowded. They are available from the Ratnapark or Bagbazar bus stations in Kathmandal.
  • Microbus: Faster than the local bus, these leave from the same stations and are a bit more expensive but comparatively comfortable.
  • Private Car or Taxi: You can hire a private vehicle or take a taxi directly from Kathmandu. This is the most convenient and comfortable method to reach Bhaktapur.

By Foot or Bicycle

For adventurers, Bhaktapur is accessible by a long walk or a bicycle ride from Kathmandu, but be prepared for a few hours of travel and navigating the city's traffic.

It is important to note that Bhaktapur has an entrance fee for foreign visitors, which you will need to pay at one of the designated ticket counters upon arrival.
