Best Time to Visit Bhimbetka Rock Shelters

The Bhimbetka Rock Shelters, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located near Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, India, are a window into prehistoric life through captivating rock paintings. The best time to visit these ancient marvels is during the cooler months from October to March. During this period, the weather is pleasant, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C, which makes exploring the outdoors and walking through the shelters a comfortable experience. This is also the perfect time for photography enthusiasts to capture the vividness of the rock art as the sun is not too harsh and the natural light provides perfect illumination for photographs.

Visiting in the monsoon season from July to September is less advisable due to the heavy rainfall that could hinder the exploration of the area. The summer months from April to June are extremely hot in Madhya Pradesh, with temperatures soaring up to 45°C, thereby making sightseeing during the day quite challenging. Regardless of the time you choose for your visit, ensure to carry weather-appropriate clothing, sun protection during warmer months, and ample water. When planning your itinerary, please note that the site is open from sunrise to sunset and requires a few hours to fully appreciate its historical significance and the breadth of its natural beauty.
