Best Time To Visit Chennai (Tamil Nadu) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

Chennai, located on the southeast coast of India, experiences a tropical wet and dry climate. The best time to visit Chennai is typically during the pre-monsoon and winter months, between October and February. During this period, the weather is relatively pleasant with milder temperatures and lower humidity levels. The maximum temperature hovers around 30°C, while the minimum can drop to around 20°C, making sightseeing and outdoor activities enjoyable. Moreover, this season hosts several cultural festivals, including the famous Music and Dance Festival in December, which could be a major attraction for tourists interested in the local arts.

Avoid visiting during the peak summer months from March to early June, when temperatures can soar to 40°C, coupled with high humidity levels, which makes it quite uncomfortable for traveling and exploring the city. The monsoon season starts in late June and continues till September, characterized by heavy rains and occasional thunderstorms which could disrupt travel plans and outdoor excursions. If monsoon charm is what you seek, late June to August can also offer a unique experience despite the potential for rain, although it is generally considered off-season for tourism.
