Hadimba Temple, also known as Dhungari Temple, is an ancient cave temple dedicated to Hidimbi Devi, wife of Bhima, a figure in the Indian epic Mahabharata. The temple is surrounded by a cedar forest, known as Dhungiri Van Vihar, at the foot of the Himālayas. The structure, built in 1553, is a fine example of Indian architecture, which features a four-tiered pagoda-shaped roof and intricately carved wooden doors. The façade is embellished with wood carvings of mythological characters and symbols. The sanctuary inside houses a rock over which a temple was built, encompassing the footprint of the goddess. Despite its small interior, Hadimba Temple has spiritual significance and attracts tourists for both its religious value and its natural surroundings. The festival of Behang Purnima, which features a colorful fair and rituals, is hosted here every year attracting many visitors and locals.
