Jahangir Mahal in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh, is a striking example of Mughal architecture located within the Orchha Fort complex. This historical palace was constructed by Raja Bir Singh Deo in the 17th century to commemorate the visit of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir. Its blending of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles marks it as unique, with its picturesque domes, chhatris (umbrella-shaped pavilions), and intricate latticed windows. The palace is three-storied and has numerous rooms adorned with exquisite murals. One can see a mix of cultural and artistic elements in its construction. The Jahangir Mahal is constructed on a rectangular base and is surrounded by a moat which once had crocodiles. The entrance is a grand example of the aesthetic embellishments typical of Mughal architecture, and a broad gateway leads to the inner courtyard. Jahangir Mahal offers stunning panoramic views of the town and surrounding landscapes from its upper levels. The palace indeed reflects the opulence of the era and the harmonious relationship between the ruling Mughals and the Bundela Rajputs.

Great architectural marvel
This palace was supposed to be built for a one night visit of Jahangir. It was a very strange story to be told, but no doubt it's a wonderful example of architecture and so beautifully built that one can just keep wandering inside. Those turquoise blue tiles, cupola, and narrow galleries, everything has a class and is very integrated. Orchha is a heaven for travellers.

spectacular, I would come back there
a palace for a one night visit of Jahangir - what a story, isn't it and the palace is really impressive, combining the Muslim geometry with the Hindu elements it worth to go up, to have the best perspectives, to the inner courtyard, to the surroundings, to the other palaces near by I would come back there

Jahangir's 1 night
Ironically, the story goes that the Bundela Rajput ruler of Orchha built this magnificent structure in 1605 as a lodge for Jahangir, son of Akbar, but that he only stayed here for 1 night . . . The place is grand and in fairly good condition. It is especially worth looking at the earlier main gate, which has intricate decorations and is flanked by balconies and carved elephants. The views from there over the gardens and stables are good. The palace has some rooms with very nicely painted walls and ceilings ; better viewed with a knowledgeable guide for explanations.

Part of the Orchha fort complex
Beautiful architecture and stories, you can easily spend about an hour here. The place is almost a maze and the stairs are pretty steep. The Govt guides here are great story tellers, so are absolutely worth a shot!
