It was built by the then king of Mysore, Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar in the year 1864 for the purpose of providing water for irrigation to the surrounding fields. The lake is surrounded by lush greenery and is home to numerous species of birds, making it an excellent location for bird watching.
