Chamundeshwari Temple Tourism

Chamundeshwari Temple is a revered shrine located on the top of Chamundi Hills about 13 km from the city of Mysore, which is also known as Mysuru, in the state of Karnataka, India. Dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari, an incarnation of Goddess Durga, the temple holds immense religious significance and is one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas. The main deity is made of gold and the temple exhibits a Dravidian style of architecture with a towering seven-story Gopuram embellished with intricate carvings. It is believed that the temple dates back to the 12th century, while major additions were made during the Hoysala period and later by the Wodeyars of Mysore. The temple is accessible by road and a flight of one thousand steps for pilgrims who wish to ascend on foot. The site also hosts the grand Dasara festival, attracting thousands of devotees.
